RoadTripDesk FAQ
Answers about planning multi-day road trips, plan limits, hotels, time zones, collaboration, route imports and using RoadTripDesk alongside your normal navigation app.
Is RoadTripDesk a navigation app?
No. RoadTripDesk is for planning the complete road trip: stops, travel days, overnights, notes, timing and sharing. When you are driving, use the navigation service you prefer.
Do I need to install anything?
No. RoadTripDesk runs in a modern web browser. Create an account, open the planner and your trips are available anywhere you sign in.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The Free plan currently includes up to 5 saved trips and up to 20 stops per trip, so you can start planning before deciding whether you need a paid plan.
What are the current trip and stop limits?
Free: 5 trips / 20 stops per trip. Basic: 20 trips / 50 stops. Plus: 50 trips / 100 stops. Pro is designed for unlimited trips and stops.
Can I plan a road trip across several days?
Yes. Multi-day planning is a core part of RoadTripDesk. Set a normal driving window, include breaks and see how the route develops into realistic travel days.
How do overnight stops work?
You can mark a stop as a planned overnight and choose how many nights you expect to stay. If a driving day ends without a planned overnight, RoadTripDesk can create an automatic overnight so you can see where accommodation still needs attention.
Can I stay several nights at one stop?
Yes. A planned overnight can include multiple nights, which keeps longer stays visible in the itinerary instead of treating them as a very long ordinary stop.
Can RoadTripDesk help me find hotels?
Yes. Hotel suggestions can appear around overnight locations, and you can search for nearby hotels from the planner. Hotel availability and booking are provided through external sources and booking partners.
Does RoadTripDesk book the hotel for me?
No. RoadTripDesk helps you find and add accommodation to the route, then sends you to the relevant external booking provider when you choose to book.
What happens when the route crosses a time zone?
Stops use local time zones. RoadTripDesk can show when a trip enters a new time zone, while driving duration remains the real elapsed travel time. Arrival and departure times stay local to the stop.
Can several people plan the same trip?
Yes on plans that include collaboration. Invite travel companions to help edit a trip, and RoadTripDesk checks for newer shared-trip changes before route recalculation so collaborators stay on the latest stop list.
Can I share a trip without letting someone edit it?
Yes. View-only sharing lets someone follow the current itinerary without giving them editing rights.
Which route files can I import?
RoadTripDesk supports compatible GPX, KML and CSV route-point files. Imports follow the stop limit of the selected plan.
Can I import old Microsoft Streets & Trips files?
RoadTripDesk includes support for compatible Microsoft Streets & Trips .EST journey files. Legacy files vary between versions, so not every old file can be reconstructed perfectly, but many routes can be recovered.
Can I use Google Maps or Apple Maps when I start driving?
Yes. RoadTripDesk can hand route/stops off to Google Maps or Apple Maps where supported. RoadTripDesk remains the trip-planning workspace while your preferred navigation app handles turn-by-turn driving.
Can I export my trip?
Trip export is available on paid plans. Export options and roadbook features depend on the selected plan, while map hand-off remains available for planning and navigation workflows.
What if I have a very large route?
RoadTripDesk checks the whole trip against your plan limit. If the route is too large, it recommends a plan that can actually hold it instead of silently dropping stops. Pro is designed for routes without a stop limit.
Can I keep notes and time at each stop?
Yes. Stops can carry notes and planned duration, so the itinerary can include the time you expect to spend somewhere instead of calculating the day from driving time alone.
How do I report a bug or idea?
Use the Feedback button inside RoadTripDesk. It is intended for bugs, missing features and ideas. We read the feedback, although you may not receive a personal reply to every submission.
Where can I get help with my account?
