Give each stop its local time zone

Stops can be associated with an IANA time zone derived from their coordinates. That gives the itinerary a proper local-time basis instead of assuming the entire trip uses the same UTC offset.

See when the route enters a new time zone

When the route crosses a time-zone boundary, RoadTripDesk can show a message such as “Central Time → Mountain Time · clocks back 1 hour.” The change is part of the travel day instead of a surprise when you arrive.

Keep driving duration honest

Driving three hours across a time-zone boundary is still three hours of driving. RoadTripDesk uses elapsed travel time for the route while displaying arrival and departure in the local time at each stop.

Use daylight-saving rules for the trip date

Time zones are more than fixed UTC offsets. Daylight-saving rules can change by date and place. RoadTripDesk uses named time zones so the schedule can account for the date of the trip rather than applying one permanent offset.

Useful for more than the United States

Time-zone planning matters on cross-country trips in the United States and Canada, but also on long journeys through Australia, parts of South America and other regions. Even when the difference is only an hour, it can affect hotel arrival, attractions and the amount of daylight left in the day.
